It is an amazing day!

Getting a little political this morning: The Supreme Court has held up nationwide marriage equality. On the heels of which, OutserveSLDN has asked that the Veterans Affairs immediately being providing spousal benefits to same-sex partners. A conservative judge has thrown out that conservative companies can deny third-party efforts to provide their workers birth control. (A fight that is not over, but is a step in the right direction.) Do I think this fight is totally over? No. But man, that is a whole lot of hope and some huge leaps in the right direction. I’m gonna go have a little happy cry in the shower before...

Growing Up White Bread

The area I grew up was not, at the time, especially racially diverse. My high school yearbook is packed somewhere (if it didn’t get pitched in the last move) but I can recall only one African-American family (and one incident where a teacher said something horribly offensive) and other than a couple exchange students, I’m not recalling anyone who was Mexican-American. So, I find things like this article on racial origins by stirringwind on tumblr very important, and very personally helpful. In a lot of ways, I think our culture teaches us that melanin content = race, and that is not the case. Fun stuff for Friday

Even though it’s a holiday for most people, I thought I’d post some fun stuff from around the web, to liven up the day “Disturbingly Creative Snowmen” from Huffpost – some of them are direct recreations of scenes from my all-time favorite comic strip, Calvin & Hobbes. Also from Huffpost,  an Optical Illusion. Having seen similar things, I had it figured out before the end, but still find stuff like this facinating. A very lovely (and NSFW) picture from Twitter. I love the contrasts here. Yum. Found on Amy Lane’s Blog. An awesome bromance story from Not Always Romantic. I think this is super sweet. As my brother would call them, Heterosexual Life Partners. And one last one from Huffpost, Nude Dancers and Landscapes. Two of...
